Take it all out, any time.
Everything you write in Wavn can leave in files any tool opens, and work from other tools comes in the same way. No step of it needs us, and none of it costs extra.
One page, in the file you need
A written page leaves from its page menu as a PDF, a Word file, Markdown, or one web page that carries its own pictures and reads offline. With its sub-pages, if you tick them in.
A board and a database
A board leaves as a picture (PNG or SVG) and as its full data. A database leaves as a CSV file, one line per row.
Everything, in one zip
Export everything, on the Pages list, makes one zip of every page, board and database you can open, a folder for each project. It is made in the background and the bell says when it is ready.
Your whole account
One request returns your whole account as a single structured file: decisions, conversations, projects, notes, tasks, memory, mail and calendar, with every uploaded file listed. It is there at any time, and for thirty days after you close the account.
Word, Markdown, web pages and text
Import, in the New page dialog, reads a Word file, Markdown, a web page or plain text, up to 50 MB, into a page with its headings, lists, checklists, tables, links and pictures.
A Google Doc
With Google Drive connected, From Google Drive picks a Google Doc and reads it with its headings, tables and pictures.
A Notion workspace
A Notion export (Markdown and CSV, as a zip) comes in as pages, the pages inside them and databases, with pictures kept and the links between pages working.
An Obsidian vault
A vault, as a zip of its folder, comes in with its folders as pages, its [[links]] opening the right page, its pictures and files, and each canvas as a board. Apple Notes and Dropbox Paper exports in Markdown or Word come in the same way.
A Confluence space
A space’s HTML export comes in as one page holding its whole page tree, with tables, panels, pictures, attachments and the links between its pages.
An Evernote notebook
A notebook’s .enex file, however large, goes up to Files and its notes come in a few at a time, each under the notebook’s page with its dates, tags, pictures, files, checklists and tasks. Closed partway, it carries on from where it stopped.
A Miro or FigJam board
A board’s stickies, exported as CSV, become notes on a new board; with the board’s picture in the same zip, the picture is laid behind them so you can see where everything was.
A drawing
A board comes in from an Excalidraw drawing, a tldraw file, an Obsidian canvas or Wavn’s own board file, as notes, connections, groups and drawings: strokes, lines and arrows come in as they were drawn.
Nothing twice
Every page brought in says where it came from and keeps the day it was first written. Importing the same export again adds only what is new.
Wavn’s own export
An Export everything zip brought into an empty workspace puts everything back: every page, board and database, in projects of the same names.
Nothing is dropped in silence
When something could not come, such as a Word style with no match or a picture that was a separate file beside the original, Wavn says exactly what before you open the page.
A zip of pages from Wavn is laid out so anyone can read it without Wavn.
Pages
Each written page is a .md file or an .html file named after the page; Export everything writes both. A page’s sub-pages sit in a folder of the same name beside it. Two pages with one name are told apart as “Name (2)”.
Boards
A board is a .json file and an .svg picture. The .json holds format "wavn-board" and version 2, the board’s title, and four lists: notes (id, x and y as the top-left corner in pixels, width, height, colour, caption and text), links (from one note’s or drawing’s id to another’s, with a kind, arrow or line, and a colour), groups (id, position, size and title) and draws (id, kind, position, size, rotation, colour, stroke, layer, a stroke’s points relative to its box, and text). A version 1 file still reads.
Databases
A database is a .csv file with one row per row, its columns as the header.
Pictures and files
Pictures and attached files are in a files folder, named by their id and their own name. The pages point at them there, so links between pages and to files work inside the zip.
manifest.json
Names every page with its id, its kind, its files and the page it sits under; lists every file with its size; and names anything left out with the reason, such as a file over 50 MB. It also keeps each page exactly as Wavn holds it, so Wavn can bring everything back. A reader without Wavn can ignore those fields.
Write it in Wavn. Keep it wherever you like.
